Das sowie die Anekdoten aus seinem Leben machen ihn zu einem heimlichen Working-Class-Superstar.
Susana Nobre changiert zwischen Beobachtung und vorsichtigem Reenactment, mit einer selbstsicheren Filmsprache (brillant auf 16 mm), an der Aki Kaurismäki seine Freude hätte. Wo endet der Dokumentar- und wo beginnt der Spielfilm, fragt man sich einmal mehr.

Joaquim is unemployed and about to retire. He drives from company to company in his Mercedes Elegance, collecting stamps for the job centre. Speaking of time – with his Elvis quiff and his extravagant styling, time seems to stand still in Joaquim’s life. This and all the anecdotes from his life make him a secret working class superstar.
Susana Nobre oscillates between observation and careful re-enactment, using a confident film language (brilliant on 16mm), one that Aki Kaurismäki would enjoy. Once again, you might ask yourself where the documentary ends and where the feature film begins.
